TERMINALFOUR saves Northeast Iowa Community College $100K and enhances online student engagement

Release Date:

Northeast Iowa Community College has improved online engagement for current students with fully responsive redesign of website from TERMINALFOUR

Boston, 22 July 2015 - TERMINALFOUR, the digital engagement and web content management platform for higher education, announced today that Northeast Iowa Community College (NICC) has enhanced its online accessibility for faculty, current and prospective students with a fully responsive website. TERMINALFOUR’s solution has created cost savings of up to $100K for NICC, compared with other solutions.

NICC serves eight counties in northeast Iowa and surrounding areas, is attended by more than 7,000 students and offers more than 85 academic programs of study as well as distance learning, customized business and industry training, short-term certification options and adult education and literacy. NICC’s web presence faced a number of challenges due to a lack of responsive design which negatively impacted the user experience, accessibility and the overall performance of the website.

TERMINALFOUR had previously provided NICC with its digital engagement and web content management solution to introduce structure, hierarchy and workflow onto its website. NICC decided to implement a new responsive design but were limited by budget. TERMINALFOUR, however, provided NICC with its sample site design which would be tailored, uniquely branded and fully responsive. This option required a small number of consultancy days and saved the College upwards of $100K over other solutions.

Rebecca Mueller, Web Development Coordinator, NICC, said, “Our students are at the heart of everything we do at the College. We take this commitment seriously and we knew we were falling short in terms of web. The reality is our audience of current students is accessing our online resources predominantly through mobile devices and our previously non-responsive design was frustrating to navigate, to search and to fulfil a desired action.”

“We wanted to reach our audience, wherever they are, and elevate their online experience to new heights. Whether it’s looking for library or events information on their cell phones or trying to access counselling services on their tablet, we needed to make the process meaningful and easy. We approached TERMINALFOUR to help us out.”

Mike Taylor, VP of Global Sales, TERMINALFOUR, said, “Northeast Iowa Community College was trying to meet multiple obligations to their students and faculty by delivering a powerful and engaging online experience. There were also obligations to the institutions stakeholders who desire and expect a fitting representation of the NICC brand online and to the taxpayers to be fiscally responsible.

“TERMINALFOUR’s solution built upon the work previously done with NICC and delivered a responsive redesign project that met all the accessibility and user experience goals they had envisioned. Importantly, the site is meeting the key performance criteria it set out to achieve which emphasized putting the user first.”
