Taxonomy & Classification Capabilities
Complete Taxonomy & Classification Capabilities
Context is what gives information its value if you don't know how information fits into the big picture, you don't know how to use it. Verity K2 Enterprise lets you augment automatic classification with domain expertise to classify enterprise information into taxonomies that reflect the way you organize your business. It also lets your employees, partners and customers organize information to support their individual, team or project needs by creating Personal and Collaborative Taxonomies with a single click. Pre-built Verity Taxonomies are also available to let you either jump start your taxonomies from scratch or enhance your existing taxonomies with industry standard categories and definitions.
Full Range of Taxonomy Creation and Management Methods
Taxonomies, the "trees" or "directories" of categories that information is classified intoput information into the context that gives it value. Even the most accurately classified information is worthless if it's in a taxonomy that doesn't make sense to your users. Verity K2 Enterprise ensures your taxonomies drive your business objectives by delivering the full range of taxonomy management methods, from manual creation by knowledge engineers to completely collaborative construction from the ground up.
Deploy Verity Taxonomies
Using industry standards as the basis for your taxonomies is a common way of jumpstarting your classification initiative. These standards provide an agreed upon vocabulary with in-depth industry specific terminology. Available Verity Taxonomies cover pharmaceuticals (MeSH), defense (DTIC), homeland security, human resources, information technology, and sales and marketing.
Reuse or Import Taxonomies
You can take advantage of your current investments in information organization by reusing existing taxonomies, extracting taxonomies from URLs or file paths, basing new taxonomies on metadata or other fielded data, or importing taxonomies from vendors such as LexisNexis (exclusive to Verity).
Create New Taxonomies that Incorporate Domain Expertise
Knowledge engineers familiar with your corporate content and user needs can design new taxonomies from scratch.
Automatically Extract Concepts
Verity's patent-pending Thematic Mapping can be used to analyze all the information across your enter-prise to reveal themes and concepts. This can be used to generate entire taxonomies, break populated categories down into subcategories or to mine enterprise knowledge for new insights. Once Thematic Mapping has identified concepts, it labels them with names that are easy for people to make sense of.
Enable Personal and Collaborative Taxonomies
Verity's unique Dynamic Taxonomy technology enables individual users to create Personal Taxonomies, or groups of users to create Collaborative Taxonomies, with a single click. These can consist of one or two simple categories, or entire taxonomies with high-level categories and subcategories. Individuals can create role-based Personal Taxonomies, and delete or modify them as their position changes. Similarly, team members can create a Collaborative Taxonomy to support a project, and then delete it when the project is completed.
Federated Taxonomies
Verity's Federated Taxonomies let you put Federated Search results in the context of your corporate taxonomies. This real-time capability adds significant value to Federated Search by classifying query results from multiple sources into your corporate taxonomies so your users can view them in the context of your business environment.
Flexible, Accurate Classification Processes
Once your taxonomies are built, Verity lets you populate them with your enterprise information by flexibly combining automatic classification with domain expertise. The ability to augment machine efficiency with human expertise is critical to building ICM applications that cost-effectively balance extremely high levels of accuracy with your available resources. Only Verity gives you this flexibility.
Automatic Classification
Positive and negative exemplary documents can be used to automatically generate the rules that define categories. This employs Verity's patent-pending Logistic Regression Classification (LRC) technology, the most accurate automatic classification technology currently available.
Business Rules
Business rules that capture domain expertise can be used to augment and/or modify the LRC-generated rules in order to enhance accuracy or meet specific business goals. Industry or department specific rules, such as those supplied by Verity Taxonomies, can also be imported to define categories that accurately reflect your business.
