Software Engineer - Research & Development

The Role

This development role is based within our Research & Development department reporting to our Software Architect.

The role involves the development, bug resolution and testing of our TERMINALFOUR Site Manager Enterprise Content Management solution and associated modules. The role will particularly be based around the Java development environment working in technologies such as Servlets, Javascript, JSP and XML.

The role will specifically involve the following:

  1. Working closely with our Software Architect to identify and specify new features, modifications or modules for TERMINALFOUR products.
  2. Testing software developed to agreed quality control standards.
  3. Resolving known bugs/issues.
  4. Develop and test software code.

The Ideal Candidate

  1. Will have an IT/Computer science degree or third level equivalent.
  2. Will have worked as a Java & JSP Developer in a commercial environment for over 3 years.
  3. Will have excellent knowledge of various J2EE web platforms, applications and technologies.
  4. Will have experience in specifying projects and working with others to develop those specifications.
  5. Will have experience using Java / J2EE Application Frameworks, including Apache Struts and Spring.
  6. Communicate clearly and concisely both by telephone and in writing.
  7. Be personally well organised, presentable, and manage ones' own time efficiently.
  8. Build a high level of technical competency in the TERMINALFOUR product portfolio.
  9. Ability to work in a team environment

An interest in and experience in web and database based technologies as well as hardware and operating systems such as: (in order of priority, but not all essential)

Java, Java Servlets, JSP, JUnit, RDBMs (including Oracle, Mysql & MS SQL), JDBC, HTML/XHTML, XML, JavaScript / DHTML / DOM, CSS, Unix, Spring Framework, Web Services / SOAP, Turbine / Velocity, Hibernate, Apache Struts, Maven, Apache, J2EE Application Servers, LDAP and Perl.

Knowledge of formal specification techniques and tools (UML etc.) would be very advantageous.
